Mary Potter Apartments

48 Mein St, Newtown

recent

McKee Fehl have completed the innovate and sustainable build of 41 modern rental apartments, on behalf of the Mary Potter Hospice in Newtown.

This development was undertaken to support Mary Potter Hospice Foundation’s social vision, by generating long-term rental revenue to fund its palliative services and assist in keeping these services free of charge for the people of Wellington.

To maximise the success of the project, McKee Fehl provided extensive early contractor engagement, including value engineering, buildability and design solutions. This strategic input has efficient approach to enhance the overall quality of the build, while minimising the impact of construction on the local community and environment;

  • A stringent traffic management plan has been implemented to minimise the impact of construction on the neighbouring hospice and local community.
  • The building is largely timber-framed, with a laminated timber flooring system and engineered timber frame. This reduces the development’s environmental footprint and minimises construction noises.
  • Significant elements of the build have been prefabricated offsite to enable quick onsite assembly, reduce construction noise and enhance the overall finish and quality of the apartments.

Built over 5 levels, this is the first fully engineered prefabricated-timber build of its kind, in Wellington.

Using this method of construction not only enabled us to produce a high-quality building, but it ensured a cost effective and sustainable solution - reducing our carbon emissions, significant CO2 savings for our client and highly reduced on-site waste and construction noise.

This development builds on the success of recent projects completed for the Mary Potter Hospice including enabling works for this programme plus upgrades at 48 Mein St, demolition and renovation activities at 58, 60, & 62 Mein St and a fitout at Emmerson House.
