As part of their $26m redevelopment at 80 Willis St, McKee Fehl redeveloped part of the original Wellington Newspapers properties to create the sophisticated and iconic Press Hall eatery and Press Hall laneway.

Now transformed into an around-the-world hospitality hotspot, Press Hall boasts a collection of 12 eateries with a range of breakfast, lunch and dinner temptations. From coffee and cake in the morning, to pita, pizza or poké bowls for lunch, or even an afterwork drink – there’s something for everyone. What’s more, guests can choose to dine-in with friends, family or colleagues, or, take away drinks and meals at their own convenience.

One year on and Press Hall continues to raise praise from the Wellington community. Commenting on the precinct, Wellington’s favourite blogger Lucy Revill from The Residents recently said: “Nowhere else in Wellington is like Press Hall! From the architecture to the food offerings, it is what Wellington had been crying out for.”

Much like the rest of precinct, creating a modern and dynamic site which preserves and celebrates much of the original form, structure and heritage lies at the heart of this redevelopment.

In revitalising this landmark site, McKee Fehl and the team created a multi-purpose urban hotspot with a range of long-term benefits:

  • Ensuring the conservation and functionality of landmark buildings
  • Providing seismically secure prime real estate
  • Serving the corporate needs of Wellington
  • Further cementing Wellington as the heart of New Zealand food culture
  • Creating community space for local events and celebrations
  • Enhancing an informal pedestrian network between two central city streets (Willis St and Boulcott St)
